"I Heart Boobies!"
A more recent case took place when a Pennsylvania school board voted to take to the Supreme Court its case against two middle school girls wearing “I heart boobies!” bracelets to support breast cancer. The girls were suspended for wearing and distributing the bracelets. These girls did not understand why they were being punished for trying to help raise money for a cause in need. They went to the ACLU, who then decided to take their case and represent them. The Third Circuit found that this is speech about an important social issue and that these girls were unfairly suspended. Ultimately, the court ruled in favor of the girls and found that the bracelets were not lewd or disruptive at all.
