Throughout history, there has been a constant struggle in education to establish the protection of students and the preservation of civil liberties. Many notable cases have gone as far as the Supreme Court. The true question lies in determining at what point school administration is justified in limiting free speech and/or other constitutional rights for the safety and security of the students. The courts have demonstrated through numerous decisions, that free speech can only be limited in cases of actual violence or harm, not where the threat of violence is feared.
